As we’ve grown older, we’ve
"As we’ve grown older, we’ve realized the need to find ways to accommodate our needs. Corelle dishes are surprisingly light, strong, well-designed, and, well, perfect for us. Our daughter collects Correlle, many pieces decades old. The reason she collects Correlle is that Correlle dishes don’t break. They don’t fail. They don’t falter. When the fine China are swept into the dustbin of history, Correlle fights on, through every tater tot casserole, through every wild New Year’s Party, through every Easter picnic, through years of Christmas dinners, births and funerals, late night snacks, tumbles off of side tables, rough use by pets, large and small, absent-minded drops and spills, freezer duty, grandkids fending off monsters, real and imagined, even when bearing bad news, as when grandpa joyfully fills the small condiment bowls with magical fruitcake, insisting everyone take a bite! Only to be found days later, fruitcake shriveled and unloved, still clinging to the white, pure, faithful little dishes, abandoned in haste under couches and couch cushions, faithful to the end. You see, Corelle dishes don’t break, they don’t stray from their heavenly purpose, and they never surrender. The pure, white, simple, most elegant receptacles of our daily bread last through the years, through the tempests, through our lives until, one day, they find themselves stacked on a shelf at a charity shop, patiently waiting for a new generation to discover them stacked, to collect them, to treasure them, and to feed to rising generations from eternal surfaces that do not mark, do not scar, do not dim in the basking glory of a new family. And the cycle goes on and on. Corelle dishes are not a temporary convenience, not a passing fad, and not a delicate item soon falling victim to time and events. They are the Rock of the Kitchen, the preferred dish for any occasion, the tie that binds generations, even after life passes by and new life rises. This will be the last set of dishes we buy. We have fine China, pewter, silver, dishes common and uncommon, but we trust every day to the pearly white, unfailing, unstinting, indomitable Corelle. I don’t know what people are looking for in the panoply of products that make life lovely and wonderful, but I do know Corelle is the kitchen version of unseen angels, constant, reliable, heedless of spills, dishwasher safe, proof against the highest heat and darkest cold. If you haven’t purchased Corelle yet, you most certainly will. Admit it. Order them now and get on with life. While no one knows the end from the beginning, I know Corelle will be there, like Winston Churchill, in the darkest hour, in the hour of victory, and in the fading twilight, like the Parthenon, like the Lincoln Memorial, like every good and true thing."
